LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) is a reflective microdisplay technology based on a silicon backplane. Using standard CMOS processes, microdisplays with extremely small pixels, high fill factor (pixel aperture ratio) and low fabrication costs can be realized.
LCOS micodisplays in consumer projection products typically have lifetimes >20,000 hours at operating temperatures of +10°C to + 70°C for the visible waveband (420 – 700 nm). HOLOEYE offers monochromatic and color field sequential microdisplays. For single panel color projection a color field sequential (CFS) display addresses three monochromatic images corresponding to the primary colors (RGB) in a repetitive sequence and is illuminated by a triggered light source.
HOLOEYE offers drive ASICs and standard drive board solutions for evaluation for several mycrodisplay types. HOLOEYE also offers customized development of drive electronics, flex cables and display packages. HOLOEYE specializes in custom designs using LCOS to meet the requirements of industrial customers. We offer design, prototyping and manufacturing services.

HEO 6001 Developer Kit
We currently offer 2 versions of hte HEO 6001 microdisplay. A version vor the visible range and a version for the near infrared up to 1100 nm. For both versions developer kits are availalbe including the display, a standard driveboard and all necessary accessories to run the display for testing and evaluation.
The kit is highly programmable and allows a tailored configuration according the specific requirements. The driveboard uses an HDMI interface for addressing images and an USB connection for advanced calibrations. Via the USB connection (UART USB slot) the user can perform various display adjustments like gamma correction, geometrical settings and different sequences can be loaded to the driver. Besides this the driver features a trigger sync output to synchronize the device with external devices. The driverboard also features a dual-core ARM® Cortex™-A9 processor. This enables the user to program additional functionality which is directly processed on the driver (e.g. a slideshow from images which are loaded from USB flash (via OTG USB slot) or from internal memory). The dual-core system runs an embedded Linux™ SMP operating system and includes a library which provides full control and supervision of the display and driver itself. The driverboard provides access through Serial and Ethernet-over-USB2 (RNDIS) interfaces and can be programmed using standard Ubuntu™ cross compile GCC toolchain.

HEO 2220 Developer Kit
The HEO 2220 kit is used to control an LCOS (Liquid Crystal-on-Silicon) active matrix reflective mode LCD with 1920 X 1080 pixel resolution and a 0.39” diagonal. The color field sequential microdisplay is fast enough to handle all three primary colors, in order to deliver full color video images. The microdisplay supports six color fields (RGBRGB) at 60 Hz input video frame rate.
The driver ASIC is embedded in the LCoS microdisplay itself. This saves board space and makes integration more convenient. The display can accept video data input via a 4-lane MIPI DSI. The content is addressed via a standard DisplayPort signal e.g. by a PC’s graphics card. Basically, the LCOS display works like an extended monitor. Hence this plug and play kit guaranties a quick start-up and easy usage. The kit is highly programmable and communicates via an USB port. This communication port connects a PC to the driver chip allowing various configurations e.g. RGBRGB -mode, dithering modes for reduced bandwidth, gamma correction etc.
